St. Louis-Jefferson Chapter DAR

The St. Louis-Jefferson Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR), has served the St. Louis community since 1895. We are the oldest and largest chapter in the St. Louis area.

Our local activities support the NSDAR mission to "promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism."

Historic Preservation

Our chapter supports the two historic properties owned by the Missouri State Society DAR -- Roslyn Heights (shown above), in Boonville, Missouri, andCold Water Cemetery in Florissant, Missouri. Both are on the National Register of Historic Places. Roslyn Heights was built in 1895 and the first known burial in Cold Water Cemetery was in 1809. Three Revolutionary War soldiers are buried there and a Memorial Day service is held there each year.

The chapter has placed historic markers on many historic sites. The chapter also recognizes outstanding community volunteers who make major contributions to historic preservation.

Education

The St. Louis-Jefferson Chapter presents Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) medals to local students. The chapter distributes bookmarks to local schools for Constitution Week and provides a display at the local library.

The chapter encourages local schools to participate in award and scholarship programs supported by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR). An outstanding teacher of American history is recognized by the chapter each year.

The chapter actively supports DAR supported schools.

Patriotism

The St. Louis-Jefferson Chapter celebrates Veterans Day at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery each year at the chapter's large red granite boulder that honors the unknown Revolutionary War soldiers buried there.

The chapter established Patriot Walk in Millennium Park in Creve Coeur, Missouri, by planting ten trees to honor the service of American men and women in American wars.

The St. Louis-Jefferson Chapter raised and donated funds for construction of a St. Louis Fisher House at the Jefferson Barracks campus of the St. Louis VA Medical Center.

Chapter members visit veterans in local veterans facilities and support those on active duty in the military.
